Rocketry, underwater exploration, and tracking of wild animals are just some of the fields that depend upon radio telemetry. These particular units were used to collect data during Operation Teapot, a series of nuclear detonation tests undertaken by the United States in 1955 in Nevada.

Sharp increases in gasoline prices in the 1970s persuaded some buyers to purchase small vehicles from Commuter Vehicles, Inc. But every time the price of fuel spiked, it always fell again, and demand for electrics-- designed for limited use in cities--always fell along with it.

Piloting the "Lightning Benz," Oldfield topped 131 miles per hour to set a new one-mile world's speed record -- exceeding the previous mark of 127.6 mph. A week later, Oldfield broke the two-mile and one-kilometer speed records in the same vehicle.
